PRESQUE ISLE – Germaine Theresa (Martin) Maynard, surrounded by her loving family, went home to be with the Lord, Dec. 14, 2005, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Germaine was born Feb. 4, 1939, the first of 15 children born to Roland and Mae (Nadeau) Martin and grew up on a small family farm in St. Francis, where her love of children and animals began. As a teenager, she could often be found singing and playing the guitar with her lifelong friend, Carmeline Jandreau while her brother, Leroy yodeled. After graduating from Fort Kent High School in 1957, she married her soul mate on July 6 of that same year. Together they raised their family and made many wonderful memories on the Washburn Road in Presque Isle. Germaine was a devoted Education Tech at Pine Street School in Presque Isle for more than 30 years. While there she developed and enjoyed many enduring friendships with her teachers and coworkers. She was an avid reader and eager to share her love of books and learning. She also treasured time spent in her flower gardens, precious times at St. Froid Lake and watching birds and wildlife from her sunroom, her own personal sanctuary. Germaine spent her life caring for her family who will forever benefit from her loving care, sense of humor and quiet guidance. She was a model for her children and grandchildren of grace, patience, faith and courage and leaves an indelible imprint on the lives of all who knew and loved her.
