NEWBURGH – Gertrude A. Torrey, 82, wife of the late Milton F. Torrey Jr., passed away peacefully Sept. 7, 2007, with her family at her side, at home. She was born July 5, 1925, in Milbridge, the daughter of Roscoe and Alice (Stevens) Parritt. Gert attended schools in Steuben. She always had the coffee pot ready and time for a visit with family and friends. She loved traveling Downeast to visit family members. She also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and ceramics. She is survived by three sons, Bruce Torrey and his wife, Sylvia, Cameron Torrey and his wife, Mary, and Milton F. Torrey II and his wife, April; sisters, Loretta Phinney and her husband, Irving, and Olive Longer and her husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Bruce Torrey Jr., Angel Torrey, Amanda Mandigo and Roscoe “R.J.” Torrey; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Hannah and Tyler. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Lake View Cemetery, Route 9, Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy Services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Home Health and Hospice of St. Joesph, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
