PRESQUE ISLE – Gertrude “Trudy” M. Thompson, 87, of Leisure Gardens in Presque Isle, passed away March 30, 2005, at The Aroostook Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Thomas and Alma (Michaud) Page. After graduation from Presque Isle High School, she worked at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital until she married Walter Thompson on June 26, 1939. She stayed at home to raise their five children, then, in later years she worked at a local hotel and a potato processing plant. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother everyone enjoyed her baking even when they were the “test group” for some new recipe she’d found. When drugstore remedies failed, she always had a homemade cure for whatever ailment or injury that needed tending. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Walter Thompson of Presque Isle; five children and their spouses; James and Joanne Thompson of Mapleton, Alma and Benjamin Fogg of Old Town, Kathleen and David Madison of Steubenville, Ohio, Michael and Sheila Thompson of Presque Isle, Flora and Stanley McCorrison of Knox; 11 grandchildren, Scott Thompson, Jeffrey Fogg, Beth Ann King, David Madison Jr., Cheryl Madison, Jeffrey and Gregory Hudson, Michelle Carney, Angela McDonnell, Morgan and Marc McCorrison; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Thomas and Marie Page of Presque Isle, Dennis and Doris Page of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Phyllis Cavallini and her husband, Larry, of Cocoa Beach, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Nelson Page; and a sister, Avis O’Brien. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Alfred Irving, Celebrant. A reception will be held at the K.C. Hall. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Chapman Street Cemetery later this spring. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend special thanks for Gertrude’s care to the staff at The Aroostook Medical Center and at Leisure Gardens. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
