HOULTON – Gila M. Laing, 78, died April 12, 2006, in Patten, at Mountain Heights Health Care Facility. She was born Sept. 14, 1927, at Elmore, Vt., the third child of Theodore and Edith (Fisher) LeFay. Gila lived most of her life in Houlton or the surrounding area. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Eugene G. Laing, of that union were born three children. Until Gene’s death in 1985, they raised their three children and operated Laing Septic Service in Houlton. Gila’s whole life revolved around her family and home. She was an outstanding cook and homemaker especially know for her delicious home made rolls and chocolate cake with her famous boiled chocolate frosting. Her other talents included knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting and many other crafty hobbies. She is survived by her three children and their families, Larry Laing and his companion, Diane Richards, Nancy and Tom Duff, all of Houlton, Susan and Brent Cullen of Patten; five grandchildren, Ryan Duff, Annette Duff, Jason Cullen and his fiance, Brandi Crandall, Jordan and Caleb Cullen; one sister, Elizabeth McNinch; three brothers, Leo LeFay, Leslie LeFay and his wife, Nelly, Ted LeFay and his wife, Bernice; sister-in-law, Sonya Palmer and her husband, Jack; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene; her parents; sisters, Betty Roy and Lena Peters; brother, Buster LeFay. Friends may call noon, Friday until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating.
