BANGOR – John L. Elias, 56, died April 11, 2006, at a local hospital. He was born May 21, 1949, in Bangor, the son of Louis and Elizabeth “Betty” (Cowing) Elias. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1968 and attended Suffolk University. John was employed at EMMC and Maine Independent Living Services. He was a long time member and deacon of Essex Street Baptist Church. John treasured reading his Bible daily, had a great sense of humor, loved sports, and loved visiting and encouraging his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Bryant) Elias; his mother, Elizabeth; his daughter, Joy and her husband, Andrew Cassidy, all of Bangor; his son, John Elias II of Brewer; sister, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Doll and her husband, Richard, of Bangor; brother, Richard “Ricky” Elias of South Portland; stepgrandson, Brandon Cassidy of Bangor; his first wife, Linda Kalish of Brewer; nephew, Shawn Doll of Rockport, several cousins; many friends especially Peter Phillips, Brian Lawrence, Steve Speirs, and Jim Greeves; and his loving dog, Khoury. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, with the Rev. Randall Wilbur, pastor of Essex Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the interment.
