CARMEL – Gilbert J. Cyr Sr., 79, passed away peacefully Feb. 6, 2008, at his home, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Van Buren. He was a World War II veteran in the Army, a lifetime carpenter and contractor, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Florida. His passion was hunting and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife, Homerine J. (Madore) Cyr; his nine children, Michael J. Cyr and his wife, Bonnie, Sandra Inman and her husband, Bill, Gail Marquis and her husband, Fred, Gil J. Cyr Jr. and his wife, Fe, Susan Griffin and her husband, Billy, Nadine McCue and her husband, Jeff, Douglas J. Cyr and his wife, Janet, Vickie Osborne and her husband, Butch and Robby J. Cyr and his wife, Heather; his 21 grandchildren, Michelle, Toby, Bobbi Jo, Christopher, Danny, Roberto, Jason, LeeAnn, Joey, Amy, Buffie, Gabrielle, Autumn, Samuel, Scott, Jamie, Kayla, Nick, Jacob, James and Jordanne; his 21 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ethan, Alex, Tiffany, Joey, Seth, Parker, Austin, Shaylyn, Tianna, Brianna, Noelle, Cali, Jaycee, Alexis, Garrison, Evan, Michael, Olivia, Everett and Sam-antha. He was predeceased by his great-grandchild, Dayton. A service in his honor is to be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Hampden. A luncheon will be served downstairs after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gilbert J. Cyr Sr. may be sent to New Hope Hospice, P.O. Box 757, Holden, ME 04429.
