NORTHEAST HARBOR – Girland Leroy Robinson, 88, died Nov. 19, 2005, at a Mount Desert Island healthcare facility. He was born Sept. 9, 1917, in South Gouldsboro, the son of Charles and Alice (Miles) Robinson. Girland worked for Pratt and Whitney during World War II. He was a lobster fisherman for 60 years and for 20 years was a boat captain for D. Luke Hopkins. Girland was a well-known drummer for local bands. He played the Saturday night dances at the Trenton Grange for 20 years, along with various wayback balls and contra dances. He is survived by his daughter, Roberta Robinson of Northeast Harbor; and a grandson, Benjamin Robinson, of Henderson, Texas; and a niece, Marilyn Chambers of Mount Desert; and nephew, Richard Robinson of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Vinnie; and a brother, Clyde. Private services will be held at the family’s convenience.
