HANCOCK – Gladyce Belle (Wolfe) DeAngelis, beloved wife of Arcangelo DeAngelis, passed from among us Friday, July 23, 2004, at a local hospital where she was lovingly surrounded by friends and family. Born Nov. 4, 1915, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of George and Elva Wolfe. Educated in the Columbus, Ohio, school system and Columbus School of Arts and Design, thence to Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She taught High School Art in Batavia, Ohio, and was the art supervisor for the Troy school system. She achieved her master of art degree from the University of New Mexico, where she pursued studies of the Pueblo Indian culture. Most recently retired as art director of the J.L. May Co., a graphics design firm in New York City, where she spearheaded the development and design of packaging and labels as well as editorializing a wide range of publications while residing in Westport, Conn., for 35 years. Fulfilling a retirement ambition, they moved to Hancock, where she resided with her husband of 54 years. An herbalist, she enjoyed the arts, especially painting, paper ma`che`, and gourmet cooking which she especially enjoyed sharing with friends. Surviving in addition to her husband are a niece, Janet Parsons of Ohio; many nieces and nephews great and grand; and a very special friend, Joan Wescott of Lucerne-in-Maine. She will be sadly missed by her many, many friends from here and abroad. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, with the Asst. Pastor Carol Stevens from the Grace Methodist Church in Bangor, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
