FORT FAIRFIELD – Mrs. Gladys M. Iversen, 78, wife of the late Herbert S. Iversen, died Tuesday evening, April 17, 2007, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. She was born May 2, 1928, on Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of Richard and Ida May (Baldwin) VanWickler. She was a graduate of the Roosevelt High School, Long Island, N.Y., and was a resident of East Moriches, N.Y., until 2002, where she was a member of the fire department auxiliary, the historical society, the United Methodist Women and a den mother. While residing in Fort Fairfield, Gladys was a member of the United Parish Women and the Sunshine Club. In addition to her active participation in community and church affairs, Gladys enjoyed board and card games and especially loved bingo. She possessed a special appreciation for birds and belonged to the National Audubon Society. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Iversen was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, in July 1996; one brother, Richard VanWickler; one sister, Doris Iversen. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert A. and Deanna Iversen of Bellingham, Wash., and James and Debra Iversen of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth E. and Christopher Ferguson of Narragansett, R.I.; six grandchildren, Sarah Ito of Appleton, Wis., James M. Iversen of Fort Fairfield, Deanna Prothero of Vacaville, Calif., Emily King of Laceyville, Pa., James Ferguson of Braungchweig, Germany, and Stephen Ferguson of Narragansett, R.I.; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at United Parish Church, 4 Church St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Interment will take place later in the spring at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of fellowship will be held immediately after the funeral service at United Parish Church Vestry.
