MOSCOW – Stanton B. Hunnewell, 79, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville. He was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Bingham, the son of Raymond and Jessie (Redmond) Hunnewell. He attended Bingham schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School, Class of 1947. Stanton married Elizabeth Farrar Sept. 20, 1952, in Bingham. Stanton was employed as a woodsman by Harry Melcher in the Bingham and Dry Mills areas, prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1951. He served in the military as a medical corpsman at MASH units in Korea. Stanton was a decorated war veteran; he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in June 1952 and received a medical retirement from the military in June 1953. After the military he went to work for Hudson Pulp and Paper of Augusta, as a forest technician and retired from International Paper Co., Woodlands Division in 1985. He was a 50-year member of the Stanley Beane Post No. 99 American Legion and served as adjutant several years. He was predeceased by his parents; and a grandson, Aaron Jon Hunnewell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth F. Hunnewell of Moscow-Bingham; his children, Gregory J. Hunnewell, and his wife, Susan, of Madison, Gene C. Hunnewell and wife, Shirley, of Salt lake City, Margret H. Wells and husband, Stephen, of Florida City, Fla., and Randall C. Hunnewell and wife, Marilyn, of Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four cousins, Howard Stuart Jr. of Madison, Jane Lavingne of Milford, N.H., Paula Tourangeau and husband, Kurt, of Berlin, N.H., and Lucille T. Beattie of Orrs Island. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham. A graveside service will be held later in the summer at Bingham Village Cemetery, the date and time will be announced.
