CARIBOU – Gladys M. Stackpole, 89, wife of the late Freeman L. Stackpole, died Feb. 13, 2005, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born Nov. 4, 1915, at Fort Kent, the daughter of Prime and Marie (Ouellette) Morin. She graduated from Mount Merci Academy in Waterville and also studied nursing in Caribou and at the Fordham Hospital, completing the registered nursing program. Gladys worked as a registered nurse for the Caribou School Department where she implemented the first comprehensive health program for area children between the ages of five through 18. She was the Director of Nursing for the Presque Isle Convalescent Center for two years. She was employed for the Aroostook Agency on Aging, first as the Health Services Director of Preventative Health Services for nearly seven years; then as a health specialist; and semi-retired as an RN Health Consultant. Gladys was very active in the nursing field for more than 50 years. She was a member of the B/S & B/C Northern District Consumer Advisory Council and a member of the Maine Public Health Association Council for the northern district and Augusta. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary S. and Christopher Provine of Alexandria, La.; one son, Michael L. Stackpole of California; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers Leo, Aurelle, Edmond, Valler and Romeo Morin; and by five sisters, Yvonne, Eva, Blandine, Mabel and Irene Morin. Graveside memorial services will be held at a late date to be published in the Bangor Daily News by the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
