SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. – Mrs. Glenice L. McCormick, 79, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006. Glenice was born June 8, 1926, at home on the potato farm in Mapleton. After graduating from Gorham Normal School in Maine, she began her teaching career at the Lovley School, a one-room schoolhouse in Mapleton, at age 18. After moving to Connecticut, she went on to get her bachelors and masters degrees, and did her sixth year at the University of Hartford. Glenice taught in New Hartford, Pleasant Valley, and was a remedial reading teacher, reading consultant and reading coordinator in Region 10 and Torrington. She taught English at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury for 15 years. Her last job was tutoring college students on-line, helping them write better essays. Glenice was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She did volunteer work for the Greenwoods Scholarship Committee, the Litchfield County and the State Retired Teachers Scholarship committees, the Beekley Library in New Hartford and Literacy Volunteers. She is survived by her husband, Mac McCormick; son, Richard Cain; daughter, Leslie Melody; brother, Vaughn Lovley; sister, Maxine Smith; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
