MAPLETON – Gloria Bernier, 79, a devoted mother and grandmother died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born June 30, 1925, at Presque Isle, the daughter of Joseph L. and Evelyn (Saucier) Carney. She worked for a number of years at Taterstate Foods in Washburn, and was known to be a hard worker. She is survived by her mother of Presque Isle; a son, Alveri R. Bernier and his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Patsy Wakefield, all of Mapleton; three brothers, Alcide Carney of Presque Isle, Alvery and Francis Carney of Ashland; a sister, Florence Pelkey of Presque Isle; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Dana Griffin of Perham. Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Rosaire Bernier in 1990; a son, Jimmy Bernier; and a daughter, Gladys Watt Pippen; a brother, Oliver Carney; and a sister, Maxine Legassie Holmes. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Presque Isle with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association Northeast Affiliate, 343 Gorham Rd., South Portland, ME 04106.
