BROOKS – Gloria Marie (Lavway) Cross, 74, died peacefully May 21, 2007, with her family by her side. She was born July 31, 1932, in Monroe, to Octave and Lucy (Roberts) Lavway. She attended school in Monroe. She married Edwin Cross, July 31, 1967. They shared almost 40 years together. Gloria worked at many jobs, but two of her favorites were as an aide for Waldo County Headstart for several years before getting her certified nurses aide and then at Bethany Nursing Home, Albion, until her retirement. She was kind and gentle and took great pride in her care for her patients. Gloria was active in many organizations including the Brooks Booster Club, the Harvest Valley Snowmobile Club, the Bay Area Riders, and the Brooks Historical Society. She leaves behind her husband, Edwin Cross; three sons, Meldon Gibbs and his wife, Marcy, of Jackson, Leroy Gibbs and his companion, Audrey, of Burnham, and Ricky Gibbs of Bangor; two daughters, Deborah and Dan Burns of Pennsylvania, and Marilyn and Jon Carman of Unity; two stepdaughters, Faylene Turner of Freedom, and Gloria Cross of Abbott; three sisters, Dolly Strickland of Winslow, Thressa Abbott of Freedom and Janette Prescott of Brooks; one brother, Arthur Lavway of Brooks; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, one sister, one brother, and one granddaughter. Family and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Brian Thompson officiating. Interment will be held after at Kenney Cemetery, Brooks.
