CARMEL – Evelyn (Lawrence) Ellingwood Hunt, 68, died May 22, 2007, at her home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer with dignity and grace. Evelyn was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Hampden, daughter of Norris R. and Ruth (Young) Lawrence. She was a member of the Carmel Union Congregational Church and enjoyed her church activities, several sewing guilds, and making quilts for her family and friends. She was also especially proud to be a member of the Red Hat Society. Evelyn was very active in volunteer services including a Camp Fire Girls leader, school activities and, in more recent years, Meals for Me. Surviving are her husband, Philip K. Hunt of Carmel; one son, Lyle Philip Hunt and his wife, Bobby Jo, of Etna; three daughters, Sherri Froias and her husband, Michael, of Triangle, Va., Sheryl Brockett and her husband, Donald Pembroke, of Veazie, and Brenda Atwood and Steven of Bucksport, 11 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; one brother, Gordon Lawrence of Levant; three sisters, Alice Downing of Hermon, Thelma Beath of Winterport, and Revena Hatch of Hampden, several nieces and nephews; special friends, June and Ronnie Brown and Sandy and Dennis Higgins, all of California. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Ellingwood. Special thanks to the staff of New Hope Hospice for their loving care and support. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24. Private interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Carmel. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments Thursday after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
