HOULTON – Victor Rolland Deeves, 103, passed away May 22, 2007, at Madigan Estates Nursing Home, after a period of declining health. Victor stayed active until a short time prior to his death. Victor and his second wife, Eva, moved into Madigan Estates after he had fallen at home and fractured his hip a few years ago. They decided to move home once again to 2 Pearce Ave., but found it just too much to maintain the property and both decided to move to Madigan Estates, where they received excellent care. Victor was born July 15, 1903, in Caribou, the son of Thorwell and Florence (Estey) Deeves. He retired from the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad as a locomotive engineer. He would often talk about working up to an engineer after having spent many years as a brakeman and then fireman on the coal fired locomotives. Victor was very faithful to his church, the Assembly of God on Court Street. He was often referred to as Rev. Deeves. Victor started a small Pentecostal church in Limestone prior to moving to Houlton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Edith H. Deeves; his second wife, Eva S. Deeves; a brother, Merle E. Deeves; and sister, Mrs. Earlyne Blanche Snowman. Survivors include his stepson, Andrew Mowatt and his wife, Cora; stepgrandson, David Mowatt and his wife, Kim, all of Virginia; stepgranddaughter, Andrea McRae and her husband, John, of British Columbia, Canada; one stepnephew, Frank Tompkins of Bristol, New Brunswick; three great-stepgrandchildren, five great-great-stepgrandchildren, all of Western Canada; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and also two faithful stepnieces, the Collins sisters, Marilyn and Patricia. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Assembly Church with the Rev. Kevin Hatch officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to Madigan Estates Nursing Home where Victor and Eva received such loving care, care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
