BANGOR – Glynell Margurette (Johnson) Baker, 89, died Dec. 19, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was born May 26, 1918, in Marion County, Ala., daughter of William T. and Ola Kay (Vaughn) Johnson. She was a graduate of Haleyville High School, Alabama, and served in the Woman’s Army Corps. Glynell was a longtime employee of Freese’s Department Store and an avid bingo player. She and her husband were former mem-bers of All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor and Holden Congregational Church. Glynell was a loving wife, mother, Nana and Great-Nana. She will be missed by her son, Guy L. Baker of Brewer; daughter and son-in-law, Roberta A. and Paul A. Hesseltine of Garland; five grandchildren that were her pride and joy, Tanya N. Baker and husband, James Heans, of Bangor, Albert L. Baker and wife, Erika Baker, of Bangor, Heather M. (Baker) Balzer and husband, Adam, of Tempe, Ariz., Tracy L. Hesseltine and Dan Furay of Dexter, Christie L. (Hesseltine) Whitten and husband, Joseph, of Garland. She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Anna Baker-Heans, Evan and Chayce Beck, McKenna and Madison Baker, Grace Balzer, Jacob and Isaiah Hesseltine, Danielle and Joseph Whitten Jr. Glynell was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 61 years, Elmer L. “Bud” Baker; her daughter, Neva Mae Baker; brothers, Ira, Lewis and Guy; and sisters, Myrtie, Lela and Bernice, all of Alabama. She was also predeceased by her best friend of many years, Flossie Mincher and husband, John Mincher, of Orono. Graveside services will be announced in the spring.
