BLUE HILL – Gordon D. Carter, 76, died peacefully Oct. 9, 2007, at Blue Hill Memorial Hos-pital. He was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Blue Hill, the son of Harry and Idabel (Hutchinson) Carter. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member and commander of the American Legion Duffy-Wescott Post No. 85 in Blue Hill. He was a self-employed carpenter/con-tractor, as well as owning his own chicken farm. He was a member, deacon and adult Sunday school teacher in the North Sedgwick Baptist Church. He was very active in his children’s lives and was president of the Sedgwick PTA for many years, as well as baseball coach, Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout leader. Gordon loved hunting and fishing and was a champion marksman entering in the county shoots often. He was an avid reader and went to as many yard sales as he could with Marian and their fellow yard sale buffs, Mickey and Pat Weaver of Floral City, Fla.; he always looked for a good book or a good deal. He loved his family as they loved him and he will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marian (Young) Carter of Blue Hill; one daughter, Lois Conley and her husband, Mike; two sons, Dean Carter of Blue Hill, and David Carter and his wife, Rebecca, of Blue Hill; one sister, Harriet Winters of Blue Hill; three brothers, Elwood Carter and his wife, Nota, of Brooklin, Robert Carter and his wife, Deborah, of Blue Hill, and Carl Carter and his wife, Joyce, of Blue Hill; his beloved grandchildren, Amy Smith and her husband, Chris, and their children, Madysen, Hunter, and Jocelyn, of Orland, Kristy Carter of Portland, Adam Carter of Bucksport, Jody Mabus and her husband, Scott, of Blue Hill, Jessie Conley of Blue Hill, Brittany Carter of Blue Hill, Mike Conley Jr. and daughter, Jaedyn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by one sister, Grace Astbury of Blue Hill. There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mountain View Cemetery, North Blue Hill.
