EAST MILLINOCKET – Gordon “Sonny” Jarvis, 76, went home to the Lord Jan. 22, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 10, 1928, in East Millinocket, the son of Frank and Agnes (Roach) Jarvis. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy. Sonny was a long time employee of Great Northern Paper Company where he held the positions of fire chief and safety supervisor. He was a member and a past president of the Maine State Fire Instructors Association. He assisted in the reorganization of the East Millinocket Fire Department and served as assistant fire chief trainer for many years. He was also involved in the reorganization of the local Boy Scouts and served as Neighborhood Commissioner. Sonny was a proud fourth degree member of St. Peter’s Council No. 1936 Knights of Columbus and a member of Feeney Groves Post No. 13, American Legion. Sonny was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and served as an usher at the church since the age of nine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Theresa (Wallace) Jarvis; his three children and their spouses, Thomas and Anne Jarvis of Lewiston, John and Susan Jarvis of Wells Beach, and Jean Marie and Jon Myers of East Millinocket; his two granddaughters, Angela and husband, Michael Kneeland, and Theresa and husband, Carl Perry; a great-granddaughter, Kirstyn Perry; also surviving are his sisters, Bernice “Bunny” Jarvis and Rita Jarvis Nisbett, both of East Millinocket; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where St. Peter’s Council Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, East Millinocket. Spring burial with Military Honors will be held at East Millinocket Cemetery in the Spring.
