HANCOCK – Richard T. Dyer passed away very peacefully Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at the Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Bar Harbor, and was raised in Stamford, Conn. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Anne Dyer of Brunswick; his son, Trevor Lee Dyer of Connecticut; his mother, Geraldine A. Dyer of Bar Harbor; his brother, Willie Dyer of Bar Harbor; his brother and sister-in-law, Doug Dyer Sr. and Patricia Dyer of Mississippi; his nephew, Wayne Dyer Jr. of Portland; and many caring friends, especially, Jay Holmes of Hancock. Richard was predeceased by his father, Calvin Dyer; and wife, Barbara Dyer. He worked in Stamford as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator before moving to Maine shortly after the birth of his daughter. Once in Maine, Richard spent many years working as a long haul truck driver. He and his parents owned a trucking business, CAD Transport in the early 1990’s and he spent most of his time on the road. After CAD Transport, Richard spent the rest of his working career with local contracting companies in the Down East area, driving trucks and running heavy equipment until his illness forced him to stop working in November of 2004. Richard’s true enjoyments in life were long haul trucking, NASCAR racing, Harley Davidson motorcycles, enjoying his friends and family, and especially, being with his daughter. He will be sadly missed and always remembered. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
