EAST MILLINOCKET – Gordon R. Mayhew Sr., 74, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Millinocket, the son of Russell J. and Charlotte A. (Andrick) Mayhew. Gordon was a graduate of Schenck High School, Class of 1949. He worked at Great Northern Paper Co. in East Millinocket for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Gordon is survived by a son, Gordon R. Mayhew Jr. of San Diego; a daughter, Paula Lowell and her fianc?, Warren Johnson, both of Portland; a grandson, Russell Mayhew of Oakton, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Raymond and her husband, Benjamin, of Millinocket and Marion Lane of Dedham, Mass; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Ava G. (Quinn) Mayhew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presiding.
