SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Grace Edwards Lloyd, 82, died at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility on May 23, 2005. She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Bena, Va., the daughter of Everett S. Edwards and Mary Ashe Edwards. She was president of her high school class and attended Mary Washington College, where she was also the class president. She served as secretary/receptionist for various businesses, including, locally, Dr. H.T. Wilbur’s medical practice and the Claremont Hotel. She also substitute taught and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a longtime, active member of the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church. She was predeceased in 1979 by her husband of 32 years, Park Service Ranger, John C.W. Riddle. Their lives were enriched by the various parks they served in, including Acadia, and Grace’s outgoing personality won her friends wherever she went. She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Grenville B. Lloyd. Gren’s devotion made this part of her life very happy. Together they enjoyed travel adventures to Newfoundland, New Zealand, Australia, England and Ireland, and the company of several special dogs. She is also survived by her three daughters, who will miss her, Mary Margaret Beal of Southwest Harbor, Jane Eldin of Philadelphia and Susan Robinson of Manchester; eight grandchildren, Laura Freudig, Matthew Beal, Melissa Beal, Mohammed Eldin, Aisha Eldin, Monira Eldin, Megan Robinson and Billy Robinson; as well as two great-grandchildren, Ben and Emma Freudig, who will lovingly remember her heritage. Her sisters, Mary E. Harris of Bena, Va. and Margaret Jordon of Norfolk, Va., mourn her loss. Nieces and nephews, Ellen White, Meg Jordon, Jim Harris and Staley Jordon, as well as cousins and many friends are thankful to have known her. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church, 29 High Road, with the Rev. Blake Brown officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Height Cemetery. A gathering for conversation, remembrances, and refreshments will follow at the church.
