HOULTON – Gretchen (Tur-ner) Campbell Brown, 101, died Sept. 30, 2007, at a local health care facility. She was born Dec. 8, 1905, in Houlton, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Hallett) Turner. She attended Houlton public schools and graduated from Aroostook Normal School, Pres-que Isle, Class of 1924. She taught in Oakfield and Houlton, before her marriage to Percy H. Campbell in 1938. He predeceased her in 1967. She married Lloyd M. Brown of Pres-que Isle, a retired jeweler, in 1980. He predeceased her in 1990. Gretchen was a member of Military Street Baptist Church, Houlton, Houlton Women’s Club, past president of Houlton Garden Club, a member of Aroostook, Maine and National Retired Teacher’s Associations and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by a niece, Janice Palmer and her husband, Rodney, of Houlton; great-niece, Susan Haney and her husband, Daniel, of Boston; great-nephew, Kent Palmer and his wife, Dorothy and their family of Winterport; stepdaughters, Sandra Culberson of Pennsylvania, and Marilyn Langley of Stockholm, and their families. A memorial service was held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Dunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating.
