PRINCETON – Gretchen M. Moore, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, with her family by her side, at her home. Gretchen was born July 25, 1940, in Lubec, daughter of Greenleaf and Lovie (Batron) Maker. She graduated from Lubec High School, Class of 1958. Gretchen married Donald L. Moore, Aug. 1, 1958, in Machias. Gretchen worked at a chocolate factory in Connecticut, local sardine factories in Lubec and Calais, made wreaths at her home and for Gold Star Wreath Factory for many years, and raked blueberries. Gretchen’s toughest job was raising her seven children and half of the neighborhood children, who also called her “Mom.” She loved to play card games, listen to music, hunt, fish, pick berries, collect cows and spend time with her family. Gretchen was predeceased by her father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, a nephew, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law; a great-niece; and her daughter, Rebecca’s longtime companion, Mike Manza. Surviving are her husband of more than 49 years, Donald Moore; her mother, Lovie Maker; seven children, Randy Moore of South Princeton, Donald Moore Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of South Carolina, Rickey Moore and his wife, Susan, of New Brunswick, Danny Moore and his wife, Dorothy, of Maryland, Rene MacArthur and her husband, Keith, of South Princeton, Dean Moore of Norway, and Rebecca Moore and her companion, Mickey, of Princeton; two sisters, Mildred Moore and her husband, Bruce, of Machiasport, and Valerie Holmes and her husband, Clyde, of Connecticut; two brothers, Wayne Maker and his companion, Linda, of Lubec, and Greenleaf Maker Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Alabama; 16 grandchildren, Donnie, Robbie, Ashley, Danielle, Larry, Gregory, Patricia, Courtney, Kayla, Matthew, Danny, Christina, Danell, Keith Jr., Ted and Justin; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Stevens officiating.
