BANGOR and WINTERPORT Guy Reginald Sanderson Jr. died Sunday morning, Feb. 4, 2007, at an Orono nursing home, after a short illness. Guy was born May 22, 1922, in Auburndale, Mass., the son of Guy R. and Agnes (Campbell) Sanderson. He graduated from Waltham High School, Waltham, Mass., before enlisting in the U.S. Marines at the start of World War II. He saw action in the south Pacific and fought at Guadalcanal. He contracted malaria during the war and spent a year in Australia recuperating. After his discharge from the Marines, he attended college at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. He worked as an engineer at several well known companies including, Grumman Aircraft and Fairchild Aviation, both in Farmingdale, N.Y., and at Electrical Boat Division of General Dynamics, Groton, Conn. Later in his career, he worked for the Department of the Army, Chambersburg, Va., until his retirement when he moved with his wife to Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. After the death of his second wife, he moved to Winterport. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Cochran; and his second wife, Ruth Knox. He was also the last of his generation to die having been predeceased by his sister, Isabel of Savannah, Ga.; and his two brothers, Robert of Monroe and Russell of Limerick, Pa. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Blais of Lisbon, Conn.; and nephews, Robert MacCleave of Midlothian, Va., Robert Sanderson of Waterford, Conn., Guy Sanderson of Monroe and Richard Smith of Florida; and nieces, Pamela Smith of Collegeville, Pa., and Leigh Sanderson of Pennsylvania. Arrangements are being handled by Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, Bangor.
