PRESQUE ISLE – Janice Proulx, 66, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born April 2, 1940, in Houlton, the daughter of Wilford and Eleanor (Clarke) Doescher. Janice grew up in Houlton, and was a graduate of Houlton High School and the University of New Hampshire. Janice and her husband, Robert, owned and operated the Northern Lights Motel for 15 years, and she also worked as a manager for H&R Block for 10 years. In her spare time she loved to garden and was a member of the Presque Isle Garden Club. She often traveled and enjoyed trips to places such as Iceland, Greece, and Turkey, as well as many areas in the United States. Janice was a member of the Presque Isle Congregational Church and served as its treasurer for 16 years. Janice was also a lifelong learner who enjoyed taking classes to further educate herself. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Bennett and her husband, Daniel, of Lincolnville; a son, Geoffery Proulx and his partner, Dominic Albo, of New York City; a grandson, Nicholas Bennett, a brother, Frederick Doescher and his wife, Virginia, of Houlton; and a sister, Lois Atkins and her husband, Marvin, of St. Petersburg, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marrietta Maxey. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Presque Isle Congregational Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. A time of refreshments will be provided after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Janice’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
