DEER ISLE – Gwendolyn E. Jenkins, 88, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at a Deer Isle health care facility. She was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Sunset, Deer Isle, the daughter of the late Prescott and Ethel (Small) Eaton. Mrs. Jenkins attended schools in Sunset and Deer Isle. She furthered her education in Bangor at a hairdressing school. Mrs. Jenkins worked at PJ Eatons grocery store from her early 20s until retirement in her 60s. She was an extremely active member of the Sunset Congregational Church, Sunset. She was also a member of the Deer Isle branch of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Jenkins Jr., in 1991. Family members include a brother, Gerald Eaton of Deer Isle; three nieces, Sandra Venno and husband, Paul, of Brooksville, Gwen Eaton and husband, Dennis, of Deer Isle and Audrey Hersom and husband, Robert, of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Hillside Cemetery, Deer Isle, with Pastor A. Dowe Eaton officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
