BREWER – Barbara (Wiles) Giffard passed away Dec. 6, 2007, in Brewer, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Barbara was born Nov. 1, 1931, the daughter of Arthur and Marion (Morse) Wiles. She graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1950, after enjoying a very active four years in school sports and clubs. She married Richard Giffard in 1951. For the next 28 years, she and Dick traveled around the U.S. and overseas as Dick followed his military career. While stationed in Germany, they adopted their beloved son, Gary and Barbara added motherhood to her fulfilling life. On returning stateside, they added their beautiful daughter, Shari, to their family. Barbara’s dreams were then complete. While her family was her first priority, Barbara also loved her life as a volunteer, both in the military at different bases and here in Brewer. Her greatest volunteer love was at the Ronald McDonald House and also the Brewer Rehab Center. She loved spending time with the coffee group at McDonald’s and Tim Horton’s. A special thank you is given to Dr. Andrew Dixon and Dr. William Sturrock for their excellent care and compassion. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved mother, Marion; father, Arthur D. Wiles; sister, Marjorie Brochu; a brother, Robert A. Wiles; sister-in-law, Marianne Wiles; niece, Barbara Anne; and nephew, Bobby Scott Brochu. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard Giffard; son, Gary, and granddaughter, Sarah and grandson, Benjamin Giffard; daughter, Shari and husband, Calvin Keefe, and granddaughter, Kendra and grandson, Michael Keefe. Also surviving are brother, Arthur and sister-in-law, Glenda Wiles; sister-in-law, Lorraine Wiles; brother-in-law, Wayne and wife, Helen Giffard; sister-in-law, Kathleen Doyer; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a service celebrating her life 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, with a visitation 2 p.m. until the service begins with Pastor Wayne McDonald presiding. A time of continued fellowship will be immediately afterward. Private burial will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
