BREWER – H. Robert Harnum, 57, died unexpectedly, Feb. 9, 2005, in Brewer, while cross-country skiing. He was born June 13, 1947, in Bangor, the son of Donald G. and Alda C. (Eslin) Harnum. Robert was a 1965 graduate of Brewer High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Maine, Orono. He earned his Masters degree in French at the University of Connecticut in 1971. Robert spent much of his adult life writing, teaching and traveling. He was the published author of three novels in the USA, France and Germany and taught languages at both Brewer High School and Old Town High School. He also taught classes in French at the University of Maine, Orono. Robert was the beloved brother of Sally (Harnum) Clifford and her husband, Paul, of Leominster, Mass., Don Harnum and his wife, Connie, of Selinsgrove, Pa., and David Harnum and his wife, Kathy, of Wasilla, Alaska. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Jane Smith of Bangor and John Shaw of Cutler. Friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor, celebrant. A reception will immediately follow and burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, in the spring.
