HERMON – Harold Ernest Cliff passed away peacefully Sept. 13, 2006, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1938, in Presque Isle, the son of Leon W. Cliff and Annie Henry Cliff. He was educated at Aroostook Central Institute and graduated from George W. Stearns High School, Millinocket, Class of 1957. Harold married Ann Marie Snow Sept. 26, 1959. Together they enjoyed building a life together, raising three sons and then playing with their grandchildren. Harold, throughout his life, was an example of strength and character. To many he was known for his strong work ethic and determination. Those closest to him, enjoyed the way he could make them laugh and the gentle wisdom that guided his family. Together with Ann, Harold founded several local businesses, contributed to his community and built a strong and caring family. Harold was raised a Master Mason in Mechanics Lodge, Orono, where he became master of his lodge in 1970. He was also a member of Lynde Lodge, Hermon, where he raised each of his three sons and enjoyed watching them, as they in turn, became masters of Lynde Lodge. Harold became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1993 and also was a member of the Anah Shriners. Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; three sons, Leon and wife, Diane, of Hermon, Daniel and wife, Karen, of Orono and Terrence and wife, Colleen, of Hermon; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Melissa, Audrey, Cassandra, Kendall, Sydney and Ethan. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd Cliff and wife, Althea, of West Suffield, Conn., and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Annie Cliff; and a brother, Arnold Cliff. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, were all are welcome to a Masonic memorial service 7:30 p.m. conducted by the officers and members of Lynde Lodge AF & AM, Hermon. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Brookings-Smith with the Rev. Brian Haggerty, pastor of Neighborhood Church, Bangor officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
