BELFAST – Harold F. Benjamin, 69, died peacefully in the Hospice Unit of the Waldo County General Hospital, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, surrounded by his family. Harold was born June 14, 1935, in Thorndike, the son of Fred and Ruth Benjamin. Harold graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks in 1952. He and his wife, Mary, have been married for 51 years. Harold ran a farm machinery business for 30 years, closing it in 1985. Then he went to work for his sons, Ronnie and Bruce and did the bookkeeping for them until his sickness in November. He was an excellent bookkeeper. Harold was a fireman and treasurer of the Belfast Fire Department for many years. Harold was also a long time member of the Belfast Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and liked camping and playing bingo with his close friends, Ray and Carmen. Harold is survived by his wife, Mary (Jackson) Benjamin; his children, Ronnie and Sharon; Bruce and Jackie; and Joe and Bobbie Jo; his grandchildren: Tara, Torey, Travis, Matt, Marcus, Alyssa, Kerenza, Kaleb, Colby; great-grandchildren, Kali, Korey, Dakota, Grady, Kiara; his sisters, Evelyn and Ethelyn; and special friends, Howard and June Riley, Ronald and Clarene Mollison, Donna and Bud Bradford, Dickie and Maryneva Thompson, and Grace Dodge. The family wishes to extend the sincerest thanks to Dr. Loxtercamp and staff for the great care during the difficult time. Also a special thanks for the Home Health and Hospice. Friends are invited to get together 2-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at the family home, 30 Daniel Drive, Keene’s Trailer Park, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Home Health Care, 170 Pleasant St, Rockland, ME 04841, or the Waldo County General Hospital, Hospice Unit, 118 Northport Ave., Belfast, ME 04915. Committal services will be held in the spring at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Arrangements are under the care of the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
