LINCOLN – Harold “Fritz” E. Whitten, 86, husband of the late Lila (Moore) Whitten, died July 9, 2006, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in South Lincoln, the son of Howard Wayne and Pearl (Kimball) Whitten. From Dec. 7, 1943, to March 7, 1946, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving as a staff sergeant with the 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron in the China-Burma-India theater. He received the Presidential Citation Award. Fritz enjoyed fishing at Telos with his wife. For 44 years, he worked at Lincoln Pulp & Paper Co. He enjoyed time with his family and loved his camp at the Little Narrows, where he spent many hours towing water skiers around the lake. He is survived by his daughter, Paulette Whitten of Lincoln; two sons, Harold W. Whitten and his wife, Bette Jean, of Lowell and Edward A. Whitten and his wife, Julie, of Florida; three grandchildren, Harold W. Whitten Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Howland, Jeffery Whitten and his wife, Cheryl, of Enfield and Calvin Whitten of Germany; five great-grandchildren, Katie Lila, Alissa, Jacob, Hannah and Jennie Whitten. He also leaves a special friend, Helen Veino. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Aldrich Weatherbee. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Lincoln Cemetery.
