BANGOR – Harold LeRoy Getchell, 80, husband of the late Mary (Hackett) Get-chell, died Nov. 2, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 5, 1923, in Orono, the son of Philip E. and Jennie C. (Betts) Getchell. Harold served in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the 82nd Air Borne during World War II. He worked for many years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Harold received the American National Red Cross Certificate of Merit in 1939 for saving the life of a man on Brewer Lake. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Sept. 27, 2002, and by a brother. He will be missed by dear friends, Charles and Cathy Edwards; and by his friends at Nicky’s Diner. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating. Friends may call at Brookings-Smith, 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
