ELLENTON, FLA. – Harold L. Mitchell Jr., 75, passed away April 28, 2005, at his home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease and cancer. He was born July 10,1929, in Montville, the son of Harold (Sr.) and Phylliss (Bessey) Mitchell. He graduated from Freedom Academy and the University of St. Louis. He served honorably for the U.S. Army in the Korean War. After discharge Harold worked in the financial sector of the Bangor area including Dow Air Force Base and retired in 1984 from the University of Maine System. He also served for many years as Selectman for the town of Holden. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, DAV and many Rod and Gun Clubs. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Jester and Assistant Treasurer of Anah Temple. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially golf; but by far his favorite times were those spent with his many friends and family. He is proudly survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlene of Ellenton, Fla.; daughter, Vikki Mitchell and her partner, Lindy Pelletier, who became his second daughter, both of Augusta; brother, Dana and his wife, Kiyoko, of Albion and brother, Reggie and his wife, Holly, of Fairfield Center; and countless friends. A military funeral will be held 1 p.m. June 9, 2005, at the New Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. <>
