PROSPECT – Richard P. Herbest, 70, died May 11, 2005, at a Rockport hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Prospect, the son of Thomas and Virginia (Lyford) Herbest. Mr. Herbest retired from Delta Chemical Company in Searsport after 38 years of services. He was a member and past master of the Pownal Lodge No. 119 of Stockton Springs and Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. Richard was avid hunter and enjoyed going camping with his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Rosemarie E. Webster of Verona Island, Thomas H. Herbest of Prospect, Shawn Porter and his wife, Sandy, of Bucksport, Richard T. Herbest of Brewer, and Frederick E. Herbest and his wife, Melissa, of Prospect; one brother, Eugene Herbest of South Berwick; one sister, Rebecca Maguire of Prospect; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Beulah P. Herbest; son, Richard Jr.; daughter, Debbie Valenoti; and two brothers, Milton and Frederick Herbest. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. Donations may be made in his memory to the Prospect Community Club, Prospect, ME 04981. Arrangements by the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St. Bucksport.
