PENOBSCOT – Harold R. Gott, 83, passed away peacefully, Aug. 7, 2008, surround-ed by his loving family at an Ellsworth nursing facility. He was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Penobscot, the son of Earl and Inez (York) Gott. Harold was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Gott retired from Champion International Paper Co., in 1986, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Rising Star Lodge No. 177 AF & AM of Penobscot and Castine Grange No. 250 of Castine. Harold enjoyed camping with his family, especially his trips to Baxter State Park with his grandchildren. He was an avid farmer, enjoying working in the blueberry fields and cutting fire wood with his son. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Bowden) Gott of Penobscot; one son, Robert Gott and his wife, Ruth Anne, of Penobscot; two daughters, Lillian Leach and her husband, Brently, of Penobscot and Elizabeth Moore and her husband, Earl, of Northeast Harbor; 10 grandchildren, Nicky, Kelly, Wade, Earl, Wendy, Rebecca, Mary-Alice, James, Eric and Melanie; 17 great-grandchildren, Tyler M., Margaret, Read, Kasey, Rochelle, Spencer, Abby, Lindsey, McKenzie, Cole, Ashley, Brittany, Sydney, Austin, Connor, Jordan and Tyler L.; several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Earl; his mother, Inez; and stepmother, Jessie. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at Castine Cemetery, Castine.
