HOULTON – Ron Metcalf, 69, died Dec. 17, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Hammond, Ind., the son of Harold and Edith (Anderson) Metcalf. Ron was a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in English. He joined the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, now known as the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, in the 1960s as a special agent and served in Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C.; Bangkok, Thailand; Burma and Atlanta. While working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Ron wrote a creed which is now the Official Creed of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, “I believe in the dignity of man and, in the support of this belief, dedicate my will, my mind, and body to seek out and bring to justice all those who, by their acts, would render man less.” He retired in 1988 from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and with his wife, Judith, worked as drug education consultants around the U.S. In 1995, Ron and Judy moved to her hometown of Houlton and Ron joined the Houlton Police Department as a police officer, serving in that capacity until his retirement. Most recently, he had worked with Aroostook County Sheriffs Office as a deputy sheriff. Ron’s vocation in life was law enforcement and to serve and protect others to the best of his ability. He is survived by his wife, Judith (McBride) Metcalf; two daughters, Jennifer Hohnadel and her husband, Mike and Darcie Lunsford and her husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Allison Eckler and her husband, Jay, Elaine Lunsford and Charlie Lunsford; one brother, David Metcalf of Highland, Ind.; one sister, April Schaemaker and her husband, Bob, of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Carol Westerdahl; a brother-in-law, James McBride and his wife, Linda; special friend of the family, June Weston; many special nieces and nephews. A memorial service honoring Ron’s life will be held in May during Law Enforcement Appreciation Week. Date and time to be announced.
