EASTON – Harold S. Jones Jr., 67, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2007, surrounded by the love of his family at the Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. He was born July 10, 1939, at his home in Houlton, the son of Harold and Inez (Heatlie) Jones. Harold graduated from Houlton High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and served in Alaska until 1964. He also served in the Maine National Guard from 1980 to 1995. His service to both the U.S. Army and Maine National Guard were a great source of pride for him. Harold worked various jobs throughout his life, including Potato Service, Inc. from 1967 to 1983 and at Mardens of Presque Isle from 2002 to 2007. In both jobs many lasting friendships were formed that became a great comfort to him in the past few weeks. He enjoyed many of life’s simple joys, including big Sunday dinners with an abundance of food and family, a good game of cribbage with an old friend, or poker night with the boys. The greatest joy of Harold’s life was his grandchildren, with whom he spent much time and made many cherished memories. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Harold was predeceased by his father in 1988; his mother in 2004; and a daughter, Laurie Lee Jones in 1979. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Geraldine Jones of Easton; four daughters, Lori Bezaire and her husband, Thomas, of Salmon, Idaho, and their children, Matthew and Joshua Folsom, Becky Maynard of Presque Isle and her children, Brian and Tyler Maynard, Tammy Leach and her husband, Mike, of Presque Isle and their children, Evan, Jaron and Ezra Leach and Wendy Bartley and her fiance, Kirk Sharp of Washburn and children, Zachary Jones, Dylan Jones-Fuller and Alyssa Dennett; a brother, Robert Jones of Houlton; three sisters, Gertie Knight and her husband, Ralph, of Kentucky, Bonnie Foster and Gerry Jones, both of Houlton. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, to celebrate Harold’s life at the home of Tammy and Mike Leach, 36 Allen Road, Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes all donations in memory of Harold be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Becky Maynard, 4 Skyview Drive, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
