FARMINGDALE – Harriet Travis Fernald, died Saturday April 23, 2005, at the Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. She was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Brewer, the daughter of Perley C. Travis and Ruth (Lobley) Travis. Mrs. Fernald attended schools in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1943. She was married to William F. Fernald June 16, 1945, prior to her retirement she was employed by Depositor’s Trust Company of Augusta in several capacities. She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church of Gardiner where she served in several capacities; Trustee for 13 years, past president United Methodist Women, past officer of the Makaria Club and several committees. She was a member of the Marion Chapter No. 63 Order of Eastern Star where she served in several officer positions and was the organist for nine years. She was a member and past president of the Current Events Club of Gardiner. She was a past Director and Vice Chairman of Chrysalis Place (the Gardiner Area Food Center). She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly F. LaPlante of Gardiner; a son-in-law, Gerald F. Roy, of Georgetown, Mass.; one grandson, Robert F. LaPlante, of Gardiner; and one granddaughter, Carole LaPlante Britt and her husband, Scott Britt, of Arlington, Va.; brother, Herbert L. Travis, of Augusta; and several nieces, nephews. There will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, in care of, Faye Gregory, 118 Adams St., Farmingdale, ME 04344. Burial will be in the family lot at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner.
