NORTHEAST HARBOR AND ISLESFORD – Harry E. Scovill, 88, died Dec. 22, 2004, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. Born July 2, 1916, in Guthrie, Okla., he was the son of Edward and Belva Good Scovill. He worked in oil refining for 40 years and retired in 1981 as an instrument supervisor with the Bell/Vickers Refinery in Ardmore, Okla. A strong supporter of the Methodist Church of Oklahoma, he most recently belonged to the Roman Catholic Church of Mount Desert Island and was a member of Camps Farthest Out, an international non-denominational group. He enjoyed organic gardening, crossword puzzles, and reading. Harry was noted for his dry humor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Catherine Bartlett Scovill of Norhteast Harbor; two sons, Chris, and wife, Joan, of Maryland and Timothy, and wife, Donna, of Oklahoma; one daughter, Karen, and husband, Richard McKelvey, of Arkansas; one sister, Irma M. Aiken of Florida; and five grandchildren, Colleen, Douglas, Hilary, Lani, and Eric; and five great-grandchildren; stepson, Daniel Poulin and companion, Wendy Rackliff; five step-grandchildren, Morgan, Paul, Nichole, Casey, and Joseph, who were all part of his caregiving team along with Jane Porter. He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Joyce Mowder Scovill; son, David Scovill; brothers, Leroy, Russell, and William; and sister, Belva Jean Roebuck. A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Bar Harbor with Father John O’Hara officiating.
