WINTERPORT – Harry J. Rancourt Jr., 85, died March 1, 2007, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. Harry was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Benton, the son of Harry Sr. and Alice (Roderick) Rancourt of Winterport. He was the husband of Ida M. (Cunningham) Rancourt of Winterport. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He worked for many area construction companies and for the railroad for many years. Harry was a lifelong resident of Winterport, where he was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post No. 138 of Winterport. Harry was one of the charter members who helped found the Winterport Riverside Riders Snowmobile Club and he always loved his snowmobiling. He was also a member of the Winterport Senior Citizens. Harry enjoyed his coffee stops at Deb’s Variety, Rosie’s Diner and Steamboat Variety. He is survived by his wife, Ida of 52 years; four daughters, Rhea (Rancourt) and husband, Stanley Crossman, of Winterport, Resa (Rancourt) and husband, Laurence Crosby, of Bradley, Renee (Rancourt) and husband, Rick O’Donald, of Newburgh, and Rachelle (Rancourt) and husband, Chris Pattershall, of Orrington; six grandchildren, Brandi and Matt Gillie of Hampden, Brianne and Chris Parlin of Frankfort, Joshua and Caleb O’Donald of Newburgh and Kaden and Lucas Pattershall of Orrington; two great-grandchildren, Katie Moody and Tyler Gillie of Hampden; two sisters, Geraldine Gavard and Marguerite Arrants; and four brothers, Leon, John and Reginald, all of Winterport, and Kenneth of Penobscot. Harry is also survived by a special family friend who helped the family in times of need, Bruce Pafford of Winterport. Friends and family may call 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Winterport, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant.
