GLASTONBURY, Conn. – Harvey Hillson, 82, formerly of Old Town, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, with family by his side, at Glastonbury Health Care after a long illness. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Harriet (Goldsmith) Hillson. Born Friday, July 13, 1923, in Orono, he was the son of Benjamin and Sophie (Sidirsky) Hillson. Mr. Hillson is survived by three children and their spouses, Beth Hillson and her husband, Joel Reich, Jennifer Hudner and her husband, Kennedy and Bruce Hillson and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Glastonbury, Conn. He also leaves five adored grandchildren, Gregory and Kate Hillson, Joshua and Daniel Hudner and Jeremy Reich, several nieces and nephews and life-long friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Hillson. He served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Theater, during World War II, where he took part in the U.S. invasion of Okinawa. A 1944 graduate of the University of Maine, he was an avid alumnus who supported both University of Maine sports and his fraternity, Tau Epsilon Phi. For more than 40 years he owned the locally renowned H.M. Goldsmith retail women’s clothing stores in Bangor and Old Town. Harvey was president of the Maine Merchants Association and served on a host of other civic and merchant organizations including, the Old Town Board of Education and the committee to rebuild the Old Town Public Library. He loved golf, the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a member of Congregation Kol Haverim in Glastonbury, Conn. He was a long-time member of the Penobscot Valley Country Club. The family is grateful to the staff at Glastonbury Health Care for their compassionate care during his illness. A graveside service took place 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Congregation Kol Haverim Cemetery, Jordan Lane Extension (intersection of Jordan Lane and Berlin Tnpk.), Wethersfield, Conn. with Rabbi David Levy officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Old Town Public Library, 46 Middle St., Old Town, ME 04468, or the Alzheimer Association, CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Rd., P.O. Box 454, Kensington, CT 06037. Funeral arrangements were provided by Hebrew Funeral Associations, Inc. 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
