GOULDSBORO – Harvey L. Ober, 86, died April 16, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, with his daughter at his side. He was born March 30, 1918, the son of Floyd Ober and Helen (Greene) Ober. Harvey grew up in North Sullivan, graduated from Sullivan High School in 1936, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He went on to serve his country courageously in the Army during World War II, where he engaged in combat in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Corsica, Germany and France. He retired in 1978, as maintenance control director of the U.S. Naval Security Group Activity in Winter Harbor. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Ober) Carter of Sorrento; a brother, George Ober of Manchester, Conn.; a granddaughter, Lisa Bowden and her husband, Donald; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jacob of Blue Hill; a grandson, Matthew Walker and his wife, Rhonda, of Springfield, Va.; a stepgrandson, Clayton Carter and his girlfriend, Bonnie Griffin, of Ellsworth; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harvey was predeceased in 1991 by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Florence (Mitchell) Ober; two brothers, Floyd “Rollins” Ober, Kenneth Ober; and his son-in-law, Chester Carter Jr. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the Sullivan Harbor Baptist Church in Sullivan, with the Pastor Ronald Felix officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harvey’s name to the VFW Post No. 109, P.O. Box 281, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
