SPRINGFIELD – Harvey William Birtz, 50, died Aug. 4, 2008, in Lakeville. He was born April 26, 1958, in Calais, the son of Hollis W. Shedd Jr. and Jean (Kneeland) States. He attended Lee Academy and he was a helicopter mechanic in the Army. After his term in the Army, he was employed by Blastech, New Hampshire, as a drill operator. Harvey was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved family gatherings at his mother’s camp on Lower Sysldobsis Lake, Lakeville and passing his knowledge of fishing onto his grandchildren. Harvey is survived by his mother, Jean States of Springfield; one daughter, Jennifer Birtz of Massachusetts; one son, Jamie Clements and his wife, Tara; stepdaughter, Carri McDonough and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Brendon, Jamie Jr., Shawn, Shannon and Abby; four brothers, Jay A. Birtz and Priscilla of Mattawamkeag, Ronald H. Birtz and Donna Michaud of Springfield, Mark B. Birtz and Toni Whitney of Lin-coln, and Scott D. Birtz and Ruth of Lincoln; special aunt and uncle, Lawrence Ham and Joan; many special cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his father, Hollis W. Shedd Jr. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held noon Saturday, Aug. 9, at the waterfront. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springfield Congregation Church, P.O.
