FORT KENT – Guy David Daigle, 94, beloved family man and founder of Daigle Oil Co., passed on to his eternal reward Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Frenchville. Guy D. Daigle was born June 12, 1914, in Frenchville, the son of Victorien and Julie (Bouchard) Daigle. Only 12 years old when his father died, much of his success later on in life can undoubtedly be credited to some of the responsibility lessons learned in his youth. Guy and Bertha Chasse were married Aug. 24, 1939. They made their home in Fort Kent and enjoyed many summers at camp on Eagle Lake with their four children. Guy officially retired in 1983, handing the reins over to his son, Rick. He enjoyed 10 relaxing winters in Florida with his wife, Bertha, and their many friends from Fort Kent. Guy was an involved citizen, member of the Fort Kent Lions Club, board member of the Maine Oil Dealers Association, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, founder of the Daigle family scholarship at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, a volunteer member of the Fort Kent Fire Department, a long-time advisor on the Fort Kent branch of Northern National Bank and a benefactor to many local organizations. Guy was predeceased by his wife of 60 years; parents; brother, Albert; sisters, Laurette Daigle and Aurore Daigle Vincent; granddaughter, Lynne Miller Perryman. Guy is survived by his son, Rick and daughter-in-law, Carolyn, of St. John Plantation; daughter, Maxine and husband, Leo, of Brunswick; daughter, Deanna and husband, Kirk, of St. Cloud, Minn.; daughter, Louise and husband, Chuck, of Jamestown, N.C. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Julie-Marie Bickford, David Guy Robichaud, Allyssa and McKenzie Lamb, Rick Miller, Melanie Morgenthaler and Ricky Daigle; as well as five great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Clovis and Lucille Daigle; sisters-in-law, Bertha (Morneault) Daigle, Marcella (Chasse) Flanagan and Laurette (Chasse) Desjardins; and brother-in-law, Robert Chasse. There are no adequate words to express the family’s gratitude to Clovis Daigle, to Clovis’ staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and to Rena Michaud, Guy’s faithful caregiver and close friend. Calling hours will be 8-9:30 a.m. at Daigle and Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. In lieu of flowers, donations in Guy’s memory may be made to Saint Louis Church Restoration Fund. A Mass of celebration of Guy’s life will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Luce Church, Frenchville.
