HOWLAND – Hazel Knights passed quietly into the arms of her heavenly Father Feb. 14, 2007. She was born April 9, 1913, in Carroll, to Lillian and Pitt Lancaster. Hazel attended Howland High School. After marrying Byron Knights in August 1933, they moved to New Britain, Conn., where Hazel worked at New Britain General Hospital for many years. Later she became the head nutritionist at Slade Junior High School located in New Britain, Conn., where she retired and returned to West Enfield in 1978. She was a member of Enfield Elders. Hazel has a special place in our hearts. Her devotion to family was an inspiration to us all, and perhaps most memorable was the way she shared her love through her sweet chocolate donuts. Hazel is survived by her loving family, son, Delmont and Anne Knights of Edmond, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Joan Knights of Foley, Ala.; brothers, Ralph and Louise Lancaster of Lincoln and George and Kathy Lancaster of Pittsburgh; her niece, Rose Marie Brooks of West Enfield; and six grandchildren, Tamson Parkhurst, Andrew Knights, Sarah Knights, Deborah Beckman, Cindy Ruark and Wendy Robertson. Hazel is survived by eight great-grandchildren, James Durant, Zachary Parkhurst, Benjamin Parkhurst, Danielle Knights, Greg Beckman, James Ruark, Jacqueline Ruark and Jessica Robertson. She also had two great-great-grandchildren, Serenity and Damien Beckman. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Byron; sons, Gunnery Sgt. Melvin Knights and Richard Knights. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Scott Taylor officiating. Interment will be at a later date at West Enfield Cemetery.
