ORLAND – Hazel M. Curtis, 90, died Aug. 18, 2004, at a Blue Hill hospital. She was born Dec. 12, 1913, in New Sweden, the daughter of Axel and Leah (Perkins) Pearson. Hazel was a graduate of Caribou High School, and was a member of Orland United Methodist Church. She loved to play cards with her family, and was known in the Orland area as a great cook. Hazel is survived by three children, Donald G. Curtis and his wife, Ginny, of Penobscot, Charles A. Curtis of Penobscot, and Tiffany L. Horton and husband, James, of Bangor; 11 grandchildren, Rita Grindle and husband Russell, Robin Day and her husband, Robert, Martha Smith and her husband, Rick, Heather Colby, Mark Grant, April Colby, Leland Curtis and his companion, Samantha, Aaron Wright and his wife, Carla, Troy Curtis and his wife, Jennifer, Donald Curtis and his wife, Kathy, and Denise DiUbauldi and her husband, Nick; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Curtis of Gloucester, Mass., and Axelleah Coombs of Penobscot; one sister-in-law, Hilma Pearson of Albion; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leland L. Curtis, in 1983; one brother, Earl Pearson; two brother-in-laws, Walter Curtis and Martin Coombs. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Ron Hutchins officiating. Interment will be in Castine Cemetery. Donation may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
