BIDDEFORD – Hazel P. McCrum, passed away June 21, 2004, at Southridge Rehabilitation and Living Center, after a brief illness. Hazel was born in North Haven, March 24, 1909, the daughter of Leslie and Lena (Merrick) Dickey. She graduated from North Haven High School and Gorham Normal School. She took numerous college courses towards a Bachelor’s degree. She taught elementary school for many years. She was an active member of Baptist churches for 50 years, most recently a member of the Galilee Baptist Church of Gorham. She wrote several short stories, which were put into booklet form. She learned to use the computer when in her late 80s and had her own computer. She was married for 22 years to James Pendleton, and he predeceased her in 1950. She had four sons, Daniel (deceased), Glenn of Chesapeake, Va., James of Buxton, David (deceased). She had 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. In 1956 she married Don McCrum (deceased) of Mars Hill. He had four children, Phil (deceased), Don (deceased), Margaret and Dellie. She had 14 stepgrandchildren, 32 great-stepgrandchildren and 39 great-great-stepgrandchildren. Most likely the first piece of mail a grandchild or great-grandchild or great-great-grandchild received was a birthday card from a caring grandmother. To celebrate the life of a lady who helped many andwho had many friends, a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 20 Jenkins Road, Saco, with Pastor Sara Ewing and Rev. David Christianson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made in her name to Galilee Baptist Church, 371 Main St., Gorham, ME 04038; or Gorham Rescue Unit, 270 Main St., Gorham, ME 04038.
