MILLINOCKET – Hazen Howard, 94, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at his home on Pleasant Street. He was born March 13, 1911, in Island Falls, the son of James and Nettie (Craig) Howard. Hazen, known as the “Iceman” in the late 1940s, sold ice from house to house. He then went on to work for Great Northern Paper Company, retiring in 1973. Being a huge Boston Red Sox fan, he could often give out all the batting averages of the players, even in his later years. Most of all he enjoyed his church life and spending time with his grandchildren. Hazen is survived by his son, Donald F. Howard and his wife, Carole M., of Millinocket; one brother, Frank Howard Sr. and his wife, Helen, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Jones and his wife, Kelly, of Colorado, Rebecca Holden and her husband, Paul, of Colorado, Andrew Howard and his wife, Rhonda, of Washington, Patr-icia Hoskins and her husband, Richard, of Colorado; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Marie, in 1979; his daughter, Phyllis Howard Jones, in December 2002; his son-in-law, Robert M. Jones. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Kenneth Howard; and sisters, Edith Gardiner, Ina McCue and Dorothy Marble. Friends may call 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 25, at the R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with a funeral service to be celebrated at noon with the Pastor David Laliberte of the Family Worship Center, officiating.
