MADAWASKA and YARMOUTH – On April 15, 2008, at 5:30 p.m., the world lost one of its warmest and brightest flames. Heather Dawn Bouchard was driving on I-295 when her car veered off the highway into oncoming traffic and was struck by a news van. She was on her way to work from her home in Yarmouth, where she lived with her loving fiance, Matthew Wasco. Born to Eric and Judy Bouchard, May 24, 1983, Heather grew up in Madawaska. As a child, Heather was the consummate playmate of her brother, Kristofer, with whom she enjoyed the riches of youth well spent in northern Maine. Together and with the children of the community, they explored the depths of their imaginations, transforming their surroundings to participate in whatever paths their minds were on. An exemplary student of the Madawaska schools system, Heather was salutatorian of the graduating Class of 2001 and earned scholastic awards in science, history and English. She was also an active participant in several sports and extra-scholastic activities. After graduation, she attended University of New England, where she excelled academically, being named to Who’s Who among students in American universities and colleges. She earned degrees in both medical biology and psychology. It was during her time at University of New England that Heather’s innate love for children and desire to help others found its expression in her chosen career of assisting autistic children. With her glowing smile and infectious humor, Heather’s life brought light to all who knew her and she was loved by all. Heather was taken from us too soon, and our loss is profound. Though she will be missed deeply, her life will never fade from our memory and our heart will always be with her. Heather, we love you and miss you. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday until time of service at Daigle Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Heather’s memory may be made to May Institute for Autistic Children, 95 U.S. Route 1, Freeport, ME 04032.
